Chapter 21 Part 2

While turning on the heater, in her heart, Henrietta was cursing Ophelia. Then, she saw Ophelia enter, wearing a dress torn in several places. Henrietta widened her eyes too.

Traces of a sincere love affair were left on her thin neck. Henrietta wanted to cry, but she couldn't.

.

.

.

I had thought that one day, that would happen, the moment their bodies fused. Because Young Master loves Ophelia. They weren't the only ones present when Young Master first met her.

Henrietta was also there, amidst the servants standing by the front door bowing their heads. There was no way Henrietta was unaware of the subtle atmosphere that then flowed between Alexander and Ophelia.

Just like Henrietta, Alexander also fell in love with Ophelia at first sight.

Truly sad, from the side, Henrietta saw a man in love, but the man didn't even realize his own feelings. Even the man tried to pretend to ignore Ophelia.

When Alexander met Ophelia in the hallway, Alexander would stop and stare at Ophelia until she was out of sight, then act as if nothing had happened.

The servants also talked about their Young Master's strange behavior. After the Duke and Duchess died, the rumors intensified.

"She's not even listed on the Duke's Family Register. Legally that's legal. It's possible that Master will welcome her as Mistress of the House."

The gossip that was being circulated by word of mouth slowly became a fact since Alexander's treatment of Ophelia changed drastically.

"Even though it's only been a month, they are siblings."

"That sounds funny. Once you see the way Young Master looks at her, you won't be able to say things like that anymore."

Henrietta used to hear all that in the servant's rest area. So Henrietta was sure that she wouldn't be surprised if the two of them would one day join hands. Yes, that's what she thought.

But in reality, it is not. Henrietta couldn't take it in stride even as Alexander fell into Ophelia's arms.

Henrietta hated Alexander who acted as if he had a goal. Though he didn't hide the fact that he was suspicious of Ophelia just like Henrietta.

"Don't do anything."

Regardless, Alexander called her often, who was already Ophelia's personal maid. It was to understand everything about Ophelia.

Henrietta was very happy that Alexander needed her. In addition, the death of the Duke and Duchess also made Alexander grow closer to her.

I became grateful for melting the spokes of the wheels. I never thought that Duke would die because of that.

However, gradually, Alexander summoned Henrietta less and less. At some point, Alexander looked at Ophelia with loving eyes, and Henrietta became like a discarded card.

They made love when she was seriously ill. Henrietta wanted to ask, 'Miss, are you really going to leave here?'

Leaving the room and walking down the corridor clutching the comb tightly, Henrietta smiled sadly.

The Alexander she loves doesn't even look at her or need her help.

It was a fact she already knew. Still, why does this hurt so much that I feel like I'm going to break down? Her physical condition is still not very good. Henrietta looked like she was about to faint.

Just then, Alexander appeared. Normally, Alexander was a person who could not tolerate a mess in his cravats and buttons, even if it was just a little untidy. But now, he was walking around the Manor in messy cravats and unbuttoned shirts up to his neck.

Alexander, who had an indifferent attitude, quickly passed her by. Henrietta opened her mouth and said, "Oh, Young Master! Long time no-" but he didn't seem to hear her.

The place Alexander was going to, was none other than Ophelia's room. Knocking on the door, he stopped as if worried, and as soon as he heard Ophelia's voice, he smiled brightly and went inside.

Henrietta, who saw all that from afar, slumped her shoulders. 'I want to cry loudly!'

"Henrietta! You're stalking here again. Don't get in the way and if there's nothing to do, clean the investigator's room. The maid on duty hasn't come back from her holiday yet because of the snow."

This damn maid didn't even spare a second! Henrietta moistened her lips and ignored the maid.

My situation was indeed very pitiful, but what would happen if I ignored the maid's words? At most I just don't get dinner and get locked up.

In the past, perhaps Alexander had taken care of Henrietta's comfort. But now their relationship is falling apart. That day, Henrietta confessed that she was the one who melted the spokes of the carriage wheels.

Several months ago, Henrietta, unable to bear the guilt anymore, went to see Alexander and cried while admitting the truth. "Young Master, you are wrong. It was me who killed the Duke. So you better punish me immediately. Report me, put me in jail, and watch me while I'm hanged."

But Alexander just stared at her without a word with cold eyes. After a while, he finally slowly opened his mouth,

"Are you trying to get my attention by doing that?"

Alexander rings a bell to call servants. And ordered those servants to drag the crying Henrietta out.

Even when Henrietta confessed her sins, Alexander didn't believe her.

In that case, maybe I still have a chance. Failing to become a suspect, would mean, in other words, Young Master presumes that I am innocent.

It's not fair to ignore me by assuming that I'm acting to get attention. And now, I can't be alone with him, I can't even talk to him.

But no problem. Just looking at Young Master from afar makes me happy.

"Hey! You don't know manners!"

Henrietta forgot about the maid's existence as she reminisced about her past. The maid who had been ignored earlier continued to shout at her, but Henrietta pretended not to hear her and went downstairs.

Arriving at the investigator's room, as usual, she knocked on the door before entering. But all that was heard was silence. It looks like no one is in the room.

"Excuse me."

The room was silent. Henrietta looked around the room dimly lit by the closed curtains and clicked her tongue. At a glance, I heard that the maids liked this somewhat handsome investigator.

The investigator who came to her, who was clearly sick, had a storytelling personality and seemed kind. He said to Henrietta who was trying to get up,

"No need to force it... ...Oh, be careful."

He even helped her to lie back down.

Henrietta, who had only Alexander in mind, almost blushed and said, "Oh my." After that, as the perpetrator of the murder of the Duke and Duchess, I was extremely nervous for fear that the investigators would notice my awkward expression.

However, from the outside, he looks like a man who lives well. However, I wonder what's the use of appearances when he's someone who can't organize things neatly like this.

Henrietta went out and came back in with a candle hanging in the corridor. After being hit by the light, the condition of this room was even worse. Papers were piled randomly on the table, and piles of used paper lay scattered beneath.

I guess I should clean up the messy floor first. Henrietta picked up a wad of paper and pushed it into a corner. It's time to bring the cleaning kit after she's rough-cleaned it.

Tuk!

A piece of paper hidden in the pile of papers fell under her feet. Henrietta's eyes, which had taken it casually, suddenly opened wide.

"Hey, T-This......"

Her green eyes twinkled. Even though she knew that this was an empty room, she subconsciously looked around.

The opportunity she's been waiting for has finally arrived, Henrietta thought. She let out a small sigh. 'All I need is this!'

Carefully, Henrietta folded the paper and hid it in her arms. And I finished cleaning as if nothing had happened.

That night, Henrietta who was lying in bed woke up. The maid who shared the same room with her fell asleep to the sound of snoring.

She put on her coat and dashed out of the Manor. As soon as she was outside, a huge cold wave hit her and Henrietta trembled.

"Ugh! Cold."

This is fine. As long as there is this, all my sorrows will end today. She smiled happily and wiped the tip of her red nose.

Then, someone approached her from behind, and without a sound, was hit in the back of her head, causing Henrietta to faint.
