Chapter 11

Alone in the study, Alexander put down the teacup he was holding roughly. 'It's not easy. It's not easy.' He muttered to himself as he rubbed the corners of his eyes as if tired.

Alexander laughed heartily as he recalled his past self. Even though he had gone to great lengths to squeeze out his tears to keep Ophelia from leaving the Manor at night, what he got was nothing.

For now, Ophelia said that she would stay in this Manor until he becomes an adult. But it is not clear if she will remain here until then. Looking at her pale face and blue eyes that were barely moved by emotion, it was impossible to imagine what she was thinking.

“……Henrietta.”

He looked at the cup Ophelia was drinking. As if waiting, the study door opened and Henrietta entered. Like the other maids, she cleared the table as if she was used to it.

“I will never call your name again, Henrietta.”

Henrietta raised her head in surprise. She rubbed her hands on her apron and knelt at Alexander's feet.

“What you mean, Young Master?”

“Why are you doing something useless that I didn't even ask for?”

"Ah……"

Henrietta instantly realized what Alexander meant. What was Ophelia thinking when Alexander called out Henrietta's name? Alexander would not have calmed down if Ophelia had not scolded Henrietta. Henrietta could only bite her lips tightly.

T/N: Maybe that means, in the previous chapter when Alex called Henrietta. Alex wanted Ophelia to be mad at Henrietta because she lied by saying that Alex called Ophelia. But apparently, Ophelia just kept quiet, so Alex was annoyed and wondered what Ophelia was thinking.

“Miss Ophelia is a lonely person. She was like a thin piece of glass that would shatter at the touch. And I see, Mr. Adrian keeps saying sweet things covered in honey, I'm sure-”

"You sure? What ridiculous thing are you talking about? She is different from my mother. She's not one to cling to men."

'That's why everything I did was useless.' And Alexander could only swallow all the suffering. No matter how hard she tried to approach him, Ophelia always built a wall and pushed her away. It was like she was saying, 'Stop it. That is enough.'

“Be aware of your position, Henrietta. Don't do anything useless."

Alexander stood up, ignoring Henrietta who was kneeling like a slave serving her master. Alexander never told her to kneel on the cold floor like that. Even so, Henrietta still knelt before Alexander as if she was worshiping a god.

Of course, Ophelia looked like someone who could be exposed to danger because she didn't show any surprise. But the atmosphere that surrounded her, showed that it wasn't the real her.

Not that I don't have a guess. I'm sure she had something on her mind, that's why she tried to leave the Duke's Manor at night. What exactly is that!? Alexander thought about it while looking at the hail that was falling from behind the half-curtained window.

Henrietta looked away as she saw Alexander roll up his sleeves.
