"Nanako, if you were to become an RPG character, what do you think you'd be?"

I suddenly asked Nanako that question while she was playing a rhythm game on a handheld console.

"Eh, ah, well... I don't know. I've never really thought about it."

Perhaps it was an unexpected question, because she stopped playing and began to think.

"Come to think of it, what kinds of roles are there in RPGs again?"

"Roles, huh? Well, some of the famous ones would be... let's see."

I listed off warriors, mages, priests, and so on from some extremely famous RPGs.

Nanako thought about it with an “Hmm,” then said,

"Out of those, I think a bard would suit me."

"You do sing, after all. I think it fits you perfectly."

It was practically a role made just for Nanako.

"But... I hate to say it myself, but doesn't it feel a little out of character for me?"

Nanako said that shyly while pointing at the illustration of the bard.

Well, it was true that when you thought of a bard, you tended to picture a character who was rather quiet and reserved. Judging by her appearance, I felt that a more glamorous role would suit her better.

"Tsurayuki would be delighted to tease you about that."

"That! He'd definitely say something. Then I'll smash his stomach open with a lute."

That's exactly why it doesn't suit you...

"Then, what role do you think suits me, from your perspective, Kyoya?"

"...From my perspective?"

"Mm. I feel like you'd have a better idea than I would."

That said, Nanako had a great figure, and she seemed like the kind of person who could pull off almost anything, from a warrior onward, which actually made it difficult to choose what suited her best.

Maybe I should step away from jobs and classes for a moment and think in terms of what kind of character she'd be. She didn't really give off a princess vibe. Something more familiar, more approachable...

(A tavern... waitress, maybe.)

It felt strangely fitting. In a fantasy-style illustration, Nanako would look right at home carrying a mug and going around the tables with a smile.

But no matter how I looked at it, she'd be a minor NPC. Surely that wasn't what Nanako was expecting. It was basically the equivalent of getting cast as a tree in a school play.

"Hey, did you think of something?"

"H-Hm, but I'm still not really sure."

So, naturally, I decided not to tell her.
