Novel The Great Wish Volume 1
Chapter 1 - The Crown Princess's Dream
Part 5
She
may be a difficult daughter, but Patricia knew the magic trick that would work
on Sienna.
"Mother
will take care of the matter regarding the Blue King. I'll select people who
are good in both status and character. Of course, the final decision is yours.
You can choose from among several candidates."
"......"
"Please
say something. Don't you trust me?"
"It's
not like that."
"No
mother would ever do something harmful to her child. Princess, you are my
biological child, whom I gave birth to by feeling the pain of giving birth. A
mother is someone who is willing to die for her children. You know that,
right?"
"......Yes,
mother."
Patricia
smiled with satisfaction after hearing the answer. Sienna always called the
Emperor 'Your Majesty', and called Patricia 'Mother'. Patricia's tireless
efforts to build a bond with her daughter, step by step, were not in vain;
"Do
you have something to tell me?"
"Yes.
Mother, I heard that you would be hosting my upcoming birthday banquet."
"What’s
going on? Usually don't care about something like this, Princess."
"The
scale is excessive."
Patricia,
who was appreciative of Sienna's attention, stiffened.
"It
feels like a waste of budget......"
"It's
not too much."
Sienna
pursed her lips as she watched the corners of Patricia's eyes rise.
"Princess,
your birthday banquet also serves as your coming-of-age ceremony. We must have
that level of dignity. It is also related to the dignity of the Imperial
Family. Should you make a mother's efforts to build her daughter's prestige be
wasted?"
Sienna
was speechless and looked at Patricia before lowering her gaze. Sienna was
always the weak one in front of Patricia's speaking style which always revealed
their personal relationships.
Patricia
always told Sienna, 'My daughter, my beloved daughter, my proud daughter.
Mother loves you, there is nothing I wouldn't do for you.' Patricia's sweet
whispers became her shackles, making Sienna unable to move.
Sienna
knew very well how much power she had. The people around her were like beasts
swarming around a piece of meat. They all hoped Sienna would share her powers.
The hidden desire of the person who bowed down in front of her was clearly
visible. Because of that, she became always wary of anyone who spoke pleasant
words.
Sienna
was always alone. She had no place to give her heart to. Patricia was the only
emotional refuge that she had. Because she's my mother. Because she is not the
one who will harm her.
When
Sienna called her 'Mother', it felt like a normal mother-daughter relationship,
and she didn't hate it.
"Princess,
I'm so moved that you have already become an adult. Now that you have grown up
like this, it makes me want to brag about you to everyone. Are you still going
to say that I'm being too immodest?"
"No."
Patricia
relaxed her stern expression and spoke in a friendly manner.
"Regarding
this banquet, I have received full authority from His Majesty. Mother will take
care of it. There is nothing for you to worry about, Princess. You understand,
right?"
Sienna
let out a small sigh before answering.
"Yes.
I understand."
Sienna's
heart was heavy as she left. Her original goal was not resolved at all, and she
was left with a burdensome burden.
'Blue
King......'
Marriage.
Sienna never even thought about it. Patricia said she just needed to choose
between several candidates, but she found that more annoying. What Patricia
meant was that she had to meet and examine several potential husbands.
Why
should she do that herself? After all, a guy is still a guy.
Everyone
lost their minds in front of Sienna, no matter their gender or age. It was not
pleasant for her to imagine the man who would become her husband not even be
able to look at her in the eyes.
A
young man was walking in her direction. When he saw Sienna, he became startled
and quickly stopped and lowered his head. She walked a few steps past him, and
then Sienna turned her head. It was a single-lane corridor leading to the Red
Queen's palace. She stared at the young man's back as he walked away. It was
the first time she saw that face.
"Who
is that?"
“That
is Baron Alfon.”
The
maid's reply was one beat late. Sienna's eyes narrowed. She had never heard of
that family. At this time, alone, a young man from a humble family goes to see
the Red Queen.
"What
about Viscount Herrings?"
The
maid's forehead became damp with cold sweat.
"I
haven't seen him...... For a while now."
Sienna
did not pay much attention to the maid's reaction.
"He's
been coming and going for a while."
Sienna
turned her body and started walking. That young man was the Red Queen's lover,
and it hadn't been long since he began warming the Red Queen's bed. From what
Sienna remembers, her mother had a lover since she was very young.
There
was another woman by her father, the Emperor. It was an open secret that the
Emperor and his wife each had their own lovers. They knew and tolerated each
other.
In
order to produce offspring with good pedigree, they come together through a
contract called marriage and they enjoy their own respective lives. There have
never been any problems. Enjoying something means enjoying it, and they fulfill
their given responsibilities and obligations while maintaining their marital relationship
externally.
It
was cold and reasonable. They were the only example of a married couple that
Sienna knew.
***
Patricia,
who had smiled like a bright flower when she saw Sienna, now had a cold look on
her face.
"Did
you find out?"
"Yes.
On her way back from attending a conference, Her Highness said that the
atmosphere was crowded, so she called the Minister of Ceremonies
Department."
Until
now, all events at the Imperial Palace had been hosted by Patricia. It was the
first time Sienna had voiced her dissenting opinion. Patricia may have slipped
away this time, but since the Princess got her attention to something like
this, there's a chance it could happen again. Patricia clicked her tongue in
annoyance.
"Is
the Minister of Ceremonies Department Count Deakin?"
"Yes."
"That
Count is such a frustrating person. He's just preparing a banquet, but he's
causing a stir in the Palace to the point that the Princess noticed."
He
was a tactless and stuffy person, he knew when to kneel, so Patricia left him
alone. It looks like she won't be able to use him.
'Who
is suitable to replace him?'
Patricia
came up with several new names in her head to take on the role of the Minister
of Ceremonies Department. Although she could not control all of the Palace, she
could change the Minister of Ceremonies Department to a certain extent.
Before
becoming the Red Queen, her name was Patricia Lehmann. She was the daughter of
Duke Lehmann. The Lehmann family is one of the 6 Duke Families, the most
influential families of the Empire.
'It
would be troublesome if the Princess catches on something like this in the
future......'
Patricia
did not explicitly covet the power. She pretended not to be interested in
politics either. However, she had strictly controlled the household matters of
the Imperial Palace. Her control over the staff of the Palace is more powerful
than the Emperor.
Patricia
is a small person with absolute power in her own way. And, she does not share
power with her children. She absolutely could not allow the Princess to invade
her own territory.
Is
there anything that could divert the Princess's attention?
'I
guess we should hurry up with her wedding preparations.'
Her
hands tightened as she petted her cat. The cat was taken aback by its owner's
rough handling.
"Meoww!"
The
cat's claws scratched Patricia's wrist as it tried to twist its body to escape.
The maid next to Patricia let out a short scream in shock. A long red line was
drawn on Patricia's white wrist. Patricia's brows hardened coldly as she looked
at the blood lightly seeping out. She grabbed the cat by its scruff and threw
it to the floor.
"Get
rid of it."
The
maid was quick to catch the running cat. This cat will never come into the Red
Queen's sight again, and no one else could raise it. Although Patricia would
dispose of things she had touched, she did not like having other people own
them.
The
maid observed Patricia's expression first before saying,
"Red
Queen, Baron Alfon is waiting for your call."
Patricia
expressed interest.
"When?"
"It
hasn't been that long."
The
maid did not tell her that the Baron had encountered Her Highness on his way.
Patricia kept the existence of her lover completely hidden from Her Highness.
She suppresses her personal desires because she must be a devoted mother to her
daughter. She didn't know that Sienna had known for a long time, and that
Sienna knew but pretended not to know.
The
maids were afraid of the Red Queen. So, she often hides the facts about things
that could result in her being punished if the things were told to the Red
Queen. Patricia thought she had complete control over her attendants, but her
reign of terror was creating a rift.
After
Patricia gave permission, a light blonde man came in. Baron Alfon fell at
Patricia's feet. He held her feet with both hands and kissed her on the top of
her foot. He was very careful as if he were touching a precious jewel.
"You
become more beautiful day by day, Red Queen."
"Stop
saying something to be pleasant to hear. I am no longer a flower in full
bloom."
"That
is absurd. Who can match the elegant beauty of the Red Queen?"
The
man's eyes were filled with ecstasy as he looked up at Patricia. It is unclear
whether he was truly intoxicated by Patricia's beauty or by the power of the
Red Queen.
Either
way, it didn't matter. Patricia had both beauty and power.
Patricia
smiled as she looked at the young man, who still had a youthful expression on
his face. Did he say he was 22 or 23? If he is young, it is good because he has
a fresh taste. Although his technique was poor, his strength was good. Things
that last for a short time can get better if taught.
"Miss
Patricia!"
The
man, whose expression became hazy, rushed over to her. Patricia's red lips
curved as she closed her eyes.
