Novel The Great Wish Volume 1
Chapter 1 - The Crown Princess's Dream
Part 4
There
was no way that the knights of the Imperial Palace, who were strictly selected,
would have low skills. They had tailored it to suit her.
She
had no idea. Let's say that the average knight who was her practice helper does
that. But even the Knight Commander acted in a rude manner like that. Aren’t
knights like a symbol of uprightness?
She
believed in her innate and her own talents. She has always been very confident.
She had received the superior and genius traits of the Gods. No matter what she
learned, those around her praised the Princess for being a quick learner. No
matter what she did, she never felt overwhelmed. So she thought it was the same
with swordsmanship.
'I
have never wanted to take false praise.'
Is
it just swordsmanship? Suddenly she felt suspicious of everything.
"What
are you doing now!?"
Sienna
shouted in surprise. The man grabbed the blade of his sword with his left hand
and pulled the blade straight out to slash him. Red blood flowed down his hand.
"I
told you before. It's a sword that requires blood once it has been drawn."
Sienna
was dumbfounded and watched in a daze as Kuhn put his sword into its sheath.
"Is
that a magic sword?"
Kuhn
chuckled. Until now, he was very well known in the world he belonged to.
Everybody knows about his name and the sword he uses. So, this was the first
time he had heard that question in person.
"There
are probably some people who think that way, but it's a kind of avoiding
greater misfortune with lesser sacrifice."
"Avoiding
greater misfortune with lesser sacrifice? What is that?"
"Hmm.
I guess it's an expression that isn't used in the Empire. It's like a ritual to
prevent something bad that might happen in the future."
Sienna
felt sorry for misunderstanding his words. What he said earlier was not a
threat or bravado.
"Are
your hands fine?"
"It's
fine."
"I'll
call for someone to bring the medicine."
"It's
really fine."
"Would
it be fine if the hands of the person using the sword get damaged?"
It
was unexpected that the Princess, who had a cold expression and tone of voice,
showed delicate concern, and for some reason, Kuhn felt an itch in his heart.
"Are
you sure you said earlier that your regiment had not been decided?"
"......"
"Is
that also a lie?"
Sienna
glared at him, who secretly averted his gaze. This man caught her fancy. He may
be a bit arrogant, but his skills are good.
"Now
that I think about it, I didn't even hear your name."
"......"
"Didn't
you hear me? Name!"
"Your
Highness, someone is coming. It seems like they are looking for you."
Sienna
turned her head back. Her ladies-in-waiting were approaching. As usual, they
arrived on time when she finished her swordsmanship practice.
Sienna's
mask-like expression distorted as she turned her head again. In that short
time, she saw the back of a tall man running away in the distance, she gritted
her teeth.
'Even
if he runs, he will be in the palm of my hand.'
The
number of knights who could enter the Imperial Palace was at most several
thousand. Appearance, approximate age, and his unique sword. What's so
difficult about combining features to find him? In a few hours, he will be
presented before her eyes.

A
maid was sent to the Knights of the Imperial Palace on an errand to explain the
appearance of the person she was seeking. However, there was no response from
the knights until it got dark. Even though she sent her maid again to urge
them, there was still no response.
So
the next day, Sienna summoned a knight, Gilbert, and gave him separate
instructions. She thought she would find it soon, but as time kept getting
delayed, she got upset.
She
was on her way back from attending the Central Council meeting in the morning.
When she saw the courtiers hurriedly walking, she was already in a very unhappy
mood and said something.
"It's
a mess."
The
maid who was following her answered,
"I
believe it's because they are busy preparing for the upcoming banquet."
"You
mean my birthday?"
"Yes,
Princess."
Soon
it would be Sienna's twentieth birthday. In the empire, there was a tradition
to celebrate the 20-year-old birthday as coming of age day. The upcoming
banquet was scheduled to be held both to celebrate the birth of the Princess
and her coming-of-age ceremony.
Every
year on Sienna's birthday, a luxurious party was held at the Imperial Palace.
Since the event is handled by the Government Department in charge, Sienna has
not paid much attention to the preparation process.
"Send
someone to the Ceremony Department and tell them I have something to ask."
"Yes,
Your Highness."
The
Minister of Ceremonies, Count Deakin, rushed over.
"Could
I see the budget allocated for the banquet preparations?"
"Yes?
Ah, yes! I'll have it ready for you now, Your Highness."
The
Count came back with the documents prepared. Sienna's brows wrinkled as she
flicked through the documents.
"Do
you spend this much on my birthday banquet every year?"
"No,
Your Highness. But this year, we are preparing especially grandly."
"Why?"
"Since
it’s a special celebration event......"
"What’s
so special about it?"
The
Count secretly observed Sienna's thoughts.
"It's
the day of your birthday and your coming-of-age, Your Highness."
"It's
too much. Reduce the scale and plan again."
"But
this banquet is being conducted with the Red Queen's interest......"
Sienna
frowned slightly and then relaxed her expression.
"I
understand. I will speak directly to the Red Queen."
After
the Count returned, Sienna went to the Red Queen's palace. When she got to the
entrance, she observed the new faces that had been posted there before speaking
to the lady-in-waiting who had come out to greet her.
"It
looks like there is a guest."
"Countess
Elio is in there, Your Highness."
"Who?"
"Countess
Elio's mother is the Red Queen's cousin."
"I
see."
Sienna
answered without any emotion. She had no interest in complicated genealogy.
If
you look at it closely, most of the empire's noble families had some connection
to the Imperial Family. But no matter their rank or number, to Sienna, they
were all vassals and subjects to be ruled.
"Should
I wait for them to finish?"
"No,
Your Highness. The Red Queen told me to take you in as soon as you
arrive."
The
maid led Sienna into the drawing room. Two women were sitting across from each
other on the sofa in the drawing room. They looked at Sienna coming in and one
of them got up. She was a woman in her mid-twenties who didn't know what to do,
but then she greeted her with a bright red face (blush).
"I
offer my greetings to the Princess. It is a great honor to meet you, Your
Highness."
Countess
Elio was embarrassed to the point that she forgot to introduce herself. Sienna
didn't point out her mistakes. Because she's someone that she'll never see
twice anyway.
The
other lady sitting on the sofa greeted Sienna and smiled at her. She smiled
seductively as if trying to lure her man.
"Welcome,
Princess."
"Have
you been well, Mother?"
Sienna
greeted calmly.
It
was difficult to estimate the exact age of the lady with her heavy makeup. At
first glance, she looked like she was in her late twenties, but if you looked
closely, she looked much older than that.
Her
fingers moving languidly rubbed the underside of the chin of the cat sitting on
her lap. A white-furred cat meowed, savoring its owner's touch.
"Introduce,
this is Countess Elio, who is almost like a niece to me."
Sienna
only nodded her head. There was no greeting or smile from her. Still, the
Countess's eyes became hazy and the corners of her mouth trembled in
excitement. The mere fact that she had met the Princess in private and
exchanged greetings with her made the Countess' heart flutter with excitement
and her heart beat wildly.
"Your
Highness, i-it's an honor to greet you like this. I am Count Luke's
daughter......"
The
Countess, belatedly noticing her own mistake, stuttered and introduced herself.
Sienna cut off her words mercilessly.
"I
have something to discuss with you, Mother."
The
Red Queen, Patricia, glanced slightly at Sienna. And then she smiled sweetly at
the Countess.
"I
had a good time today, Countess. Let's put off any unfinished conversations
until next time. It seems that the Princess has something to discuss with her
mother."
"Yes,
Red Queen. I'll come by whenever you call for me. Please call me anytime. I'll
take my leave."
After
the Countess left, Patricia lightly reprimanded Sienna.
"Is
it difficult to at least accept a greeting?"
"Is
there any reason for me to do that?"
Patricia
was about to talk about the importance of maintaining connections, but then she
stopped. Even if she spoke, it would be of no use to her. No matter how many
times she said the same thing, the Princess's attitude did not change. Although
she is her daughter, there were times when she felt unfamiliar.
The
emperor was like that too. The father-daughter pair were both cold and
arrogant. And their sense of superiority as a member of the Imperial Family was
incredible. They look down on all humans and do not try to maintain good
relationships with others.
Fortunately,
she still respected her as a mother. People around them said that the
Princess's filial piety was deep, but they didn't know the truth. It was all
thanks to Patricia's extraordinary efforts.
"Princess,
the Countess may become someone important to you in the future. I'm thinking of
making the Countess’s younger brother as a candidate for the Blue King."
Sienna’s
eyes widened.
"It's
too early."
"It’s
not too early. I conceived you at the age of twenty-one."
"But
I’m not there yet."
"I
said he's a candidate. It is important to find out what kind of person he
is."
There
was no gender difference in the order of succession to the throne of the Holy
Empire. Therefore, it wasn't uncommon for a Princess to inherit the throne of
the Emperor.
In
other Kingdoms where the monarch's position is mostly held by men, the spouse
becomes the Queen. But the case was different in the Holy Empire. Depending on
whether the Emperor was male or female, the spouse could be either female or
male.
In
the empire, the title of 'King/Queen' was granted to the Emperor’s spouse. The
female spouse is the Red Queen, and the male spouse is the Blue King. The
position is not hereditary. They were a King/Queen in name only, without
territory or people.
Even
though they were a formal King/Queen, they could do more than any King/Queen of
any Kingdom. Moreover, Patricia was the biological mother of Princess Sienna.
In the history of the Empire, there were more cases where the biological mother
of the heir was not the Red King/Queen. In that sense, her power was solid.
"Princess,
it is your duty to produce posterity."
"I
know."
