Novel The Great Wish Volume 4

Chapter 1 - Touching Hearts

Part 3

The long meeting spent until the afternoon had ended. The Imperial Diet's Meeting is held 3 times in 3 days.

But, it never lasted 3 days. This meeting can be extended for up to 2 days at the request of a majority of the Diet members. At least, every year someone submits a request to add 1 day.

The Emperor leaves after he declares the Meeting closed. After that, the delegates did not go straight home but chatted together. This is often followed by dinner or drinks.

The members of the Imperial Diet mingled, and the "Iron King" was very popular among the Kingdom's delegates. There were also those who showed great interest in the Newcomer, Marquess Lard.

Sienna quickly left the room. Her head was filled with the details of today's meeting. She couldn't wait to get to her palace and work out all the details.

"Your Highness the Silver Queen."

Sienna stopped and turned around. Kuhn rushed after her.

"Where are you going, Your Highness?"

"Back to the Palace."

"Is there something urgent?"

"There are a lot of things that I don't know about today's meeting, so I'll be reflecting on my lack of learning. I intend to go back and make up for it."

"Is that an additional learning process?"

Kuhn laughed lightly.

"Your Highness, I want to join you."

Sienna stared at him speechlessly, as if she was trying to understand his meaning.

"Please invite me to your palace, and if you invite me to eat, that would be even better. I only had breakfast, and I'm afraid my stomach will make embarrassing sounds during the Meeting earlier."

Kuhn waited for Sienna's response with a smile, earlier on the inside he had a feeling of uneasiness. He humbled himself by betting. If Sienna's heart was truly open, then she wouldn't refuse his request just because of the stares of the people around them.

As they spoke, the attention of the people who came out of the meeting room fell on this pair of man and woman who were standing opposite each other.

"Of course."

Sienna's casual answer surprised Kuhn.

"Your Highness, are you also going to invite me to eat with you?"

Siena smiled.

"That's not a difficult thing."

Sienna looked at Kuhn who was standing stiffly with a confused expression. Wasn't that the answer he wanted? She didn't understand his expression. It felt weird, it looked like he wasn't happy with it.

"May I come with you guys?"

The "Iron King" who had been eavesdropping on the conversation, quickly intervened. He glanced to the side and secretly looked at Kuhn and clicked his tongue.

'Oops, Kuhn's eyes.'

It was terrifying as if a beam of light would burst from its eyes. It felt like he was screaming, 'Why are you bothering me!'. Dyan turned away from Kuhn's attack.

'Don't be mean like that, I also want to be friends with the "Silver Queen".'

Until now, Dyan's position had been that of an observer. Occasionally he provided a little favor, but it was more than just a show to show off to Kuhn. Dyan had always thought that the relationship between the two is just friendship.

However, after the party held at the Marquess Residence not long ago, Dyan's mind changed slightly. That day, Dyan had witnessed something. The air between the "Silver Queen" and Marquess Lard had a strong attraction.

However, people continued to be lured by prejudice and only tilted their heads. If Dyan didn't know what was going on, he would also be thinking, 'What are they doing?'

This was different from the rumors that were vaguely circulating, apparently 'The two have a good relationship'. What was rumored turned out to be different from what was seen with its own eyes. I feel sad because I'm the only one left. I also wanted to get to know the "Silver Queen", and I wondered if her attitude would soften if I got to know her personally.

Dyan had always longed for family ties. To those who believed in him and followed him, he couldn't reveal his weaknesses, so he always kept them hidden. However, sometimes he feels very lonely.

His loneliness is the reason why he is so determined to create a happy family with Violet who he became engaged to for political reasons. He had always envied the "Red Queen" and Doug because the two shared such a close siblings bond, and how reassuring it was to have a blood sibling to talk to about things that were hard to talk about.

Whether Kuhn glared at him or not, Dyan steadfastly looked at Sienna and smiled.

"I haven't eaten either, and hearing your conversation is making me hungry."

"You have to eat on time. Neither of you is in the right shape for a long meeting."

Sienna looked into the eyes of the two men and thought,

'They must be very hungry.'

In reality, what they said was different from what the looks in their eyes showed. Kuhn's eyes seemed to say, 'Reject Dyan' and Dyan seemed to say, 'I also want to join'. And Sienna couldn't quite tell the difference.

"Alright, let's go now. But please remember that we can't eat right away, you guys will have to wait while my maids prepare it."

Sienna turned. The two men watched her from behind as Sienna walked forward, and then the two men's gazes met. Kuhn's eyebrows shot up, and Dyan nudged his arm. Then with quick steps, Dyan was at Sienna's side.

Kuhn narrowed his eyes and stared at the siblings' backs as they walked side by side. Dyan had clearly promised not to interfere.

'Dyan. I hope you don't change your mind now.'

Had someone whispered to Dyan that Marquess Lard had been in cahoots with the "Silver Queen", and because of that he had changed his mind? I can't think of anything.

'I can't sacrifice my relationship with her.'

Kuhn caught up with the two of them. He stood to her right which was empty. With the "Silver Queen" in the center and the two men on either side, the background of the three as they walked seemed very intimate.

The facial expressions of the bystanders were mixed.

"I have heard that the "Silver Queen" often interacts with the Iron King."

"I also heard that the "Silver Queen" is close to Marquess Lard."

"So it wasn't all rumors."

The Dukes and Delegates from the Kingdom were politicians who were skilled at reading the minds of their opponents, but they couldn't guess the relationship between the three, especially the content of the "Silver Queen"'s mind.

It was understandable that she would meet separately with the "Iron King" and Marquess Lard to get to know her enemies.

However, it is unwise to face 2 strong enemies at the same time. The basis of the strategy is the battle of numbers. Whether it's a battle of brains or muscles, the number of people is the basis for suppressing the opponent.

Doug's expression darkened even more. He pretended not to notice the stares around him. With their eyes, everyone seemed to be saying, 'Since you are the Maternal Uncle of the "Silver Queen", of course, you know the intentions of the "Silver Queen", right?'

'What do I know? Mother and Daughter are the same. They always give me a headache.'

It pisses me off that there are so many things to worry about other than that Mother and Daughter.

In the past, he would be sensitive to the behavior of the "Silver Queen". He would go directly to the Red Queen’s Palace and discuss it with Patricia. Now, Doug's mind was elsewhere. He turned down Duke Morton's offer of a drink and left the Palace of the Sun.

Some time ago, he opened the safe his father left behind and faced a harsh reality. There, explained the reasons why the Previous Emperor disliked the Alkeron Family, the relationship between Father and the Previous Duke Alkeron and the Emperor, as well as what Father had done.

"I understand why Father told me not to 'pass it down' to my children."

Inside the safe was Father's diary. The diary contains his entire life.

'Maybe he wrote it without intending to show it to anyone.'

The diary is the darkness of a late Duke. Explicitly, he notes his private life which he cannot disclose. Doug would fully understand his father, not caring about the inhuman acts he committed to honoring the family name.

However, the incompleteness of the Father's personality is truly surprising. Even though Father was a great person like a god, he was actually a lowly human with an inferiority complex.

Doug's respect for his father is a pillar of his strength. The feeling of loss that Doug felt was growing. At over 40 years old, he feels like a prodigal son.

He was the Heir of the Duke, a person who had nothing to fear because he was under his Father's protection. Even after the Previous Duke died, he still couldn't be independent of his Father.

'Even so...... I respect the heart of my Father who cares for his family.'

He left his diary to his son, he must have felt every part of him stripped naked. Doug doesn't have the confidence to be like his father. A sigh came out. Doug closed his eyes.

'Fortunately, no one survived from the Alkeron Family.'

Doug pondered, trying to think of a way to find out how much the Emperor knew about those past events.

'But if the Emperor knows about it, why did he just let my father go?'

My father died of old age. Shortly before his death, the Lehmann family was on the rise.

'For now...... I'd better not tell Patricia.'

Deep down in Doug's heart, he is always wary of his sneaky little sister. If he himself was a younger brother, he would definitely be deprived of the position of the heir.

Countess Pope welcomed Sienna and her guests with open arms. The two handsome men were very pleasing to look at.

"Countess. Bring the tea to the office."

"Office?"

"It's the only table wide enough for 3 people to sit together. I also need writing materials."

"Ah, yes. I see what you mean, Your Highness."

"Please also quickly prepare dinner for the three of us."

"Yes, Your Highness."

The three sat in the living room for a while and then moved to the office. Meanwhile, the maids had finished their preparations. The table that had been propped against the wall in the corner of the room was now placed in the middle, and the sofa was moved. The table is set with 3 chairs with writing utensils.

The three sat down. Dyan looked around him.

"Good. It's an atmosphere where we can concentrate well."

It's true that a room can radiate what its owner is like. The spacious desk is well laid out and tidy. There are bookshelves within reach when a person sits there, the books can be reached by simply turning around or standing up and taking a few steps. Perhaps the documents are also categorized according to their importance and frequency of use.

"Silver Queen, how about you come to my palace sometime? I'll show you my study. Ah, how about we go to my palace tomorrow?"

Dyan made an excuse and invited Sienna over.

"You will be like this again tomorrow?"

Kuhn's gaze at Dyan was sour.

"Iron King, we are not sitting here to play. We will be summarizing today's meeting. Each of you, write as much as you can remember chronologically on the piece of paper in front of you."

Dyan frowned.

"Silver Queen, why should I......"

"I need to refresh my memory to study. Later, I'll compare it with your notes and see what I missed."

"......You are going to do it just for today, right?"

"No, every meeting."

Dyan stared at Sienna with tired eyes. He was used to hearing about the Silver Queen's perseverance, but Sienna's workload was simply beyond his imagination.

The only sound in this silent office is the stroke of a pen on paper. The three of them continued to write without speaking for almost 1 hour.

Dyan's pen stopped scratching the paper.

'Umm. Someone, please says something here.'

He was born with a good brain, befitting the blood of the Imperial Family. The content of the long meeting was relived solely by relying on his memories.

'It's organized and good.'

Dyan sighed and put down his pen.

'Still, I feel like I'm going to have a headache. My hand hurts too.'

Basically, he hates running his brain. Being smart and loving to learn are 2 different things.

Dyan cupped his chin in one hand, then looked alternately at Sienna and Kuhn. The two of them wrote without hesitation. Sheet after sheet of paper piled up.

'They're both monsters. Freak meets freak, perfect match.'

It's hard being a normal person among monsters, Dyan grumbled.

"Silver Queen."

"Yes."

“Do you remember what you said about us competing for the crown of the sacred tree?”

Sienna looked up.

"Of course."

"Are you serious?"

"That's a thing that already happened, and now you're asking me?"

"Because I didn't have time to ask at the time. Do you still feel that way now?"

"I mean it, and that hasn't changed."

“Silver Queen, actually I'm not as sincere as you. I also don't have the grace and dignity of the Imperial Family. Aren't you annoyed that you have to compete with someone who doesn't have qualities like me?”

The future Sienna in her dream was like that. I was overcome with anger and turned away from the essence. And I really regret it.

"The throne is not a prize for the Winner; it is a position that descends from heaven."

She felt a little embarrassed as she answered. Because that was the answer I got after using the failure in my dream as a stepping stone.

"......So, even if I become the Emperor, you will accept it and admit that is what the heavens desire?"

It was the kind of conversation that no one should be overhearing. Kuhn listened to their conversation with calm eyes.

"An Emperor's reign begins the moment they are enthroned. It is the will of the heavens that must be obeyed. I have no intention of causing chaos in the Empire, and the "Iron King" is not a person lacking in quality."

"Is it true?"

"Iron King has many qualities."

"Like what, specifically?"

"The hospitality of the "Iron King" is something I can't replicate, and I thought you'd be the Emperor who persuaded, not ruled."

Dyan finally answered after a long pause.

"That's an overestimation."

Dyan looked at Sienna with mixed emotions in his eyes, then smiled faintly. I've run so hard and fast to become Emperor.

'I guess I wouldn't feel unfair if the "Silver Queen" becomes Emperor.'

Dyan envied Sienna's focused and unwavering faith, and her positive pride in acknowledging and praising her rival's strengths.

"Silver Queen, let's make a deal: no matter who becomes the Emperor, we will criticize each other if the Emperor takes the wrong path, but no personal attacks. How about that?"

Dyan said with a big smile. He looks like a happy child. There was absolutely no animosity toward Sienna.

'Turns out things can change, huh.'

Sienna felt strange.

'I can avoid enmity with the "Iron King".'

In the future in dreams, we tear each other to pieces, until one dies and the other one suffers from regret.
