Novel The Great Wish Volume 1

Chapter 1 - The Crown Princess's Dream

Part 1

It happened when Sienna was 7 years old.

It was the day after her birthday, so she remembered it well. She was summoned by the Emperor to the Sun Palace.

"Sorry, I didn't stop by your birthday party because I had work to finish. It's late, but happy birthday."

"Thank you, Your Majesty. You always keep an eye on state affairs day and night, this little girl's birthday is just a trivial matter."

The 7 year old girl answered politely.

"What should I give you as a birthday present?"

"Your personal congratulations are sufficient, Your Majesty."

The Emperor looked at Sienna speechlessly, then he stood up.

"Follow me."

The Emperor took Sienna to the highest part of the Sun Palace. The road leading there was heavily guarded by knights standing a short distance away. The security is absolutely impenetrable.

Sienna looked back as she climbed the last stairs, she was alone with the Emperor. It was a strange impression for her to see the guards who had always been by the Emperor's side as if they were one with him, now they no longer followed them and stopped to wait. The experience of walking alone with her father was an unusual one, but it felt exhilarating somehow.

This room is spacious and circular in shape with a very high ceiling. The walls were nothing like I had vaguely imagined, and there were no jeweled decorations on the pillars. The floor and walls were made of gray stone, looking dull.

But it doesn't seem to matter. Sienna's breath caught in her throat as soon as she saw the large, beautiful tree in the middle of the room, Sienna couldn't describe her feelings in words. It was a holy and sacred feeling that made her lower her head.

The sacred tree.

Symbol of the Empire, blessing from God.

"You've never seen it before, right?"

"......Yes."

Sienna answered, barely able to contain herself. Sunlight poured down from the circular ceiling above the tree's head as if the tree had just radiated its own light.

"Very beautiful."

"It is our duty to protect the sacred tree."

"Yes. I'll keep that in mind."

Sienna lay on her bed, lost in old memories that suddenly appeared in her mind. It was a strange day. She wondered why the Emperor showed her the sacred tree. Was that the Emperor's way of apologizing for not attending her birthday celebration party, or was it just a fad?

'It's been more than a decade, and it's not the time to ask the Emperor about that.'

She smiled and closed her eyes to sleep.

"Your Majesty."

Sienna glared at the woman who lowered her head.

It was a rude call. His Majesty the Emperor is still alive and well. And he's not in any danger. Even if the throne would be hers in the future, it would still not be hers.

—I didn't hear that there was a new maid.

Sienna had never seen her before. She has a good memory, she remembers everyone who passes by even if it is only for a moment.

"What is it?"

Sienna panicked. 'Who are you?' she asked, but what came out of her mouth were other words.

"Fair King requests permission to see you."

"Say I reject it."

Once again, the sounds that came out of her mouth went against her own wishes, and she continued talking to the unknown woman. And not only that, her gaze looked down even though she didn't try to look down. Her body moved by itself.

"You can go."

—That's not my voice.

It was like the voice of an older person. Sienna was confused.

"I told you to leave."

"......I will obey your orders."

The maid answered reluctantly, and Sienna could feel that the woman was walking away.

"Haa......"

Her 'body' let out a heavy sigh and put down the documents in her hands. She stood up from her desk, her eyes darting to the front of her desk.

Quickly, Sienna immediately captured the sight she saw.

This is a big room. A door loomed in the distance. The floor was made of polished marble, and the circular pillars supporting the ceiling had relief carvings. This room looked familiar.

Her gaze shifted; she sat and stood. She started walking slowly.

—Excuse me.

I called her, just in case. No response.

—Can't you hear me?

Sienna called her several more times, but there was no answer. It was clear that her voice did not reach the owner of the body. She couldn't speak or move as she pleased. She could only pay attention to what she saw and heard.

No. In this situation, Sienna was an intruder. She is a parasite in the eyes and ears of others. She peeked, looked, and listened.

Her body paced back and forth in front of the table for a moment. Suddenly, she spun around. She turned to the balcony window. She unlatched the balcony window and pushed the window open with both hands.

She stepped onto the balcony and gripped the railing. The balcony was high enough that Sienna could feel the blue sky right above her head. Sienna could see a wide view of the garden below.

—This is......

Sienna opened her eyes.

Remembering the strange experience that night, Sienna felt disturbed for the entire morning. Her nanny, Countess Pope noticed her condition and asked,

"Is something bothering you, Your Highness?"

Sienna shook her head and thought for a moment. Countess Pope was the only person she felt comfortable enough to confide in.

"There was something strange last night."

"What's that strange thing?"

Countess Pope, Beth laughed lightly after hearing Sienna's explanation.

"You must be dreaming."

"Dream......? Countess, God beings don't dream."

The Holy Imperial Family referred to themselves as God beings. According to the mythology about the founding of the Empire, the first Emperor was a descendant of a god.

That's not so absurd. Because members of the Imperial Family had special abilities passed down from generation to generation, and they were different from normal humans in several ways —one of them is they did not dream.

It's something that unusual thing, but it's not widely known. While that is unusual, it is not an important characteristic.

"Ah...... I apologize. My ignorance made me......"

"It's okay. The incident was so vivid as if it were real. If it was a dream, are dreams usually like that?"

"Yes. Some dreams do feel as real as if they are seen before our eyes, no matter how much time passes."

"Has that ever happened to you, Countess?"

"Yes, I'm sure everyone has experienced that."

Sienna looked surprised.

"Then, could that dream confuse you with reality?"

Beth smiled. It was so funny to see the usually stoic Crown Princess become so curious about dreams.

"There are 2 types of dreams. Dreams that revisit things you have experienced and dreams that are manifestations of your imagination that cannot possibly happen in reality. After all, dreams are just dreams. Once you wake up, everything will end."

"Useless."

"Yes. Dreams are just fleeting and futile things."

"I thought you said earlier that you would be leaving early today. I'll see you off."

"You do not have to......"

"Let's go."

The two walked down the corridor. They walked side by side, their height difference becoming more and more obvious. Sienna was one head taller than the Countess.

It wasn't because the Countess was very small, but because the physique of a God being was much larger than a normal person. Excellent physical condition is a symbol of superiority because they inherit the blood of the Gods. Not only are their physiques extraordinary, but the God beings also have beautiful and perfect appearances, as perfect as statues. Sienna inherited the characteristics of the God being.

Anyone who saw her for the first time could not take their eyes off her. Silver hair mixed with streaks of blue hair, and skin so white it seemed to glow. That's what a goddess looks like when she descends into the human world, that's what everyone thinks.

As soon as people saw her, everyone who passed by would stop and bow deeply. She deserves their respect.

Sienna Argent.

She is the Crown Princess of the Holy Ar Empire and the heir apparent to the Emperor. The Emperor's Crown blessed by the Sacred Tree would soon be hers.

When Sienna returned from seeing off the Countess, she was greeted by a servant from the Palace of the Sun. Sienna was told that the Emperor wanted to see her, so she immediately went to the Palace of the Sun.

'When was the last time I was here.'

She thought for a moment while staring at the large doors. It had been a long time since she could remember.

She opened the door and stepped inside. She felt a strange discomfort. Sienna frowned as she looked at the circular relief pillars.

She walked towards a wide table and stopped after a few steps. She held the hem of her dress with both hands and bowed deeply.

"This girl came after receiving your call, Your Majesty."

"You may rise."

Sienna's golden eyes met the Emperor's golden eyes. The Emperor looked her up and down as he lowered his gaze towards his daughter casually.

As soon as he thought about Sienna's age, the Emperor thought about his own age. This girl is the daughter he had when he was almost 40 years old. The person before his eyes now was proof that he had reached 60 years of age.

"It's your birthday soon."

"That's right, Your Majesty."

"At your coming-of-age ceremony, I will crown you as a Queen."

"Your kindness is incomparable, Your Majesty."

Even though she answered calmly, Sienna's heart was actually pounding.

The Emperor's descendants would be crowned King/Queen when they reached a certain age. That meant they were recognized as perfect descendants of God and entrusted with the King's Crown and some direct orders from the Emperor.

"Have you thought of a name?"

"Yes. Silver Queen. Please give me that name."

"Silver Queen?"

The Emperor's eyes stared at Sienna's silver hair.

"It's not because of my hair."

Sienna showed a rare expression of embarrassment.

"Just as silver is unaffected by poison, I am determined not to be affected by bad things."

"Silver Queen...... That's good."

The Emperor nodded.

"That's all."

"Yes, Your Majesty. I will take my leave."

As Sienna turned to leave, it suddenly dawned on her. She slowly looked around her with wide eyes.

A large room, marble floors, circular pillars supporting a high domed ceiling.

'This is......'

"Is there anything else you want to say?"

"I have a request, Your Majesty. Please allow me to step onto your balcony. It will only take a moment."

The Emperor looked at the Crown Princess in disbelief at her unexpected request. But without asking why, he agreed.

Sienna opened the balcony door with both hands. She stepped out slowly, looking confused. She was like someone who had discovered the door to another world. Her heart raced as she gripped the balcony railing.

'Ah......'

As she stuck her head out the balcony railing and looked down, she let out a breath.

This is the same. The same view as I saw last night.

'This is strange.'

Sienna pondered as she exited the Palace of the Sun.

The Countess said that dreams are experiences or imagination. However, Sienna's dream was neither.

Previously, she looked down for the first time from the balcony of the Emperor's Palace. In her dream, how could she see a scene she had never seen before?

'It's a garden.'

Sienna was about to return to her Palace, but then she turned towards the garden. As she walked while thinking, she arrived near the Labyrinth Garden —a garden that was quite far from the Palace of the Sun.

'It been a long time.'

When she was young, she used to explore the Labyrinth Garden when she was little. After she memorized all the paths, she lost interest and stopped coming here.

"Wait for me here."

Sienna left her ladies-in-waiting at the entrance of the Labyrinth Garden and made her way inside. The deeper she walked into the Labyrinth Garden, the more she remembered. She followed the tall shrub walls and enjoyed her solitary walk.

'I'm halfway there. I just have to turn right over there and then I'll reach the open space......'

Sienna stopped walking in surprise. It was an open space that was like a little room inside the Labyrinth Garden. In this place, 2 men had set up a table and were sitting together. These men also had surprised expressions on their faces.

Silence filled the air. The 3 of them continued to stare at each other without saying anything.

'That person is......'

Sienna recognized one of the men. The man in his mid-twenties was older than when she had last seen him. His ashy blonde hair had streaks of red.

Dyan Argent. He is Sienna's half-brother.

Translator's Note:

It's about Sienna's title as a 'King'. Yeah, King.

If you have read translations from previous translators or read manhwa at official publishers, then you must already know that they use male pronouns for titles such as Silver King, Red King, etc.

But... I know "The Great Wish" from the official publisher's translation in my country, and in my country, they use female pronouns for Sienna, which is 'Silver Queen'. As a result, I got used to calling her 'Silver Queen' rather than 'Silver King'. And this habit was very difficult for me to change, so I let it go.

I'm sorry if you are more used to 'Silver King' and feel strange about 'Silver Queen'...
